Earlier this week, Transsion Holding’s Tecno announced its world’s first 5G phone, the Tecno Pova 5G. Now, in an interview with GizNext, Arijit Thalapatra, CEO of Transsion India, has revealed the phone’s launch timeline. Mr. Thalapatra says the device will launch sometime in the 3rd or 4th week of January and will cost $240-$265.
We will launch our first 5G smartphone in the third or fourth week of next month.
In addition to smartphones, the company is also aiming to enter the smartphone accessories segment. Mr. Thalapatra said the company plans to launch new TWS, speakers and smartwatches in 2022.

Mr. Thalapatra also revealed that the Tecno smartwatch will launch sometime in the second quarter of 2022 and will cost less than $65. The company will release speakers in January.
Tecno Pova 5G: Specifications, features and price
The Pova 5G features a 6.9-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a hole-punch cutout. The Pova 5G uses a MediaTek Dimensity 900 octa-core processor paired with a Mali G68 GPU. It comes in a single storage configuration with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage. It boots Android 11 with a HiOS skin on top.
The phone offers a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP sensor, a 2MP sensor, and an AI lens. For selfies and video calls, the Pova 5G offers a 12-megapixel camera with dual flash. The latest Pova series smartphone is equipped with a 6000mAh battery and supports 18W fast charging. It also features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 3.5mm audio jack. It is available in Aether Black and measures 172.82 x 78.24 x 9.07mm. A handset costs NGN 129,000 in Nigeria, which is about $307.
