Nothing, the company behind the Nothing Ear (1) true wireless earbuds, held a virtual event on Wednesday, and the brand has confirmed that it will be releasing the first phone called the Nothing Phone (1) soon. While the company hasn’t released the phone today, company founder Carl Pei has revealed some of the features of the brand’s first smartphone. The Nothing (1) phone will be the brand’s second product after the TWS, Nothing Ear (1). Here’s what we know so far.
Nothing Phone (1): what we know so far
Carl Pei has confirmed that the upcoming Nothing Phone (1) will be released in the summer of 2022, which could mean the next few months. The smartphone will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile platform. But we don’t know the exact processor yet.
As far as software is concerned, Phone (1) will ship with Nothing OS (no surprise here!) which will be based on Android. The phone will keep all the standard Android features and add additional features to improve the user experience on the device. Your phone won’t bloat, and thanks to the Nothing optimization, apps on your phone will open faster and run smoother. In terms of updates, the phone will get three years of Android OS updates and four years of security updates.
In terms of software design, the OS will have an iconic design, and according to a shared video, the phone’s weather widget will have a dot-matrix design, while the voice recorder app will have an analog tape viewer. In addition, the Nothing OS launcher will be launched for select Android smartphones in April 2022.
The phone is also confirmed to launch in India and when it launches, the phone will be sold through the Flipkart e-commerce platform.
Finally, the company also announced $10 million in funding for its upcoming equity-based community investment, with anyone able to invest in the Nothing company. Last year, the company raised $1.5 million in just 54 seconds. If you’re interested in investing this time around, early access pre-registration is now open and the investment round will begin on April 5th on Nothing.tech.
