Snapchat is one of the popular photo and short video sharing apps. It also allows you to chat within the app. Snapchat currently has over 319 million users worldwide. Among those 300+ million users, India alone has over 74 million users, just behind the US. which leads with 108 million users. Although these numbers are still far behind those of its competitors such as Facebook, Instagram and Tik Tok. Snapchat is popular among young people as it offers many features such as snaps, stories, user stories, snapshot strip, filters, lens, geosearch, disappearing messages and more.
If you are a longtime smartphone user, then over the years you would have noticed that many apps use dark mode or dark theme for their app. Similarly, Snapchat users usually request dark mode on the app. But it took a long time for Snapchat to roll out this much-requested feature. It wasn’t until May 2021 that the company began rolling out the dark mode feature to iOS users.
However, Android users are still waiting for the official release (but there are several ways to enable it on Android). The main benefit you get from using dark mode is that power consumption will drop on phones with AMOLED screens, thus avoiding eye strain. In this guide, we’ll take a look at how to get dark mode on Android and iOS devices.
How to enable dark mode in iOS Mobile
On the iOS app, you can enable dark mode on Snapchat with a few simple steps using the in-app settings options.
- Open the Snapchat app on your iPhone.
- Click on the Bitmoji icon in the upper left corner of the screen (profile picture).
- Click on the settings icon in the top right corner.
- In the “My Account”settings, click “App Appearance”.
- In this menu, click on the “Always dark”option.
- Your Snapchat app will turn on
If you prefer, you can set it to “Compliance System”which will match your iOS appearance setup.
How to enable dark mode on Android
Like the iPhone, there is no option in the app to turn on dark mode in Snapchat. So, we will use the option in the phone’s display settings to enable dark mode. These steps only work on OnePlus, Oppo, Reamle and Vivo smartphones.
- Open settings
- Go to Display & Brightness.
- Click on “Dark Mode Settings”
- Tap “Dark mode for 3rd party apps (beta)”.
- Scroll down and turn on the toggle for Snapchat.
- Dark Mode will be applied to the Snapchat app
Note. We tested this method on OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo and Realme phones and it worked for all. If you have other phones, you can try the same steps, but if that doesn’t work, you can use the method below and enable dark mode.
How to Enable Dark Mode on Any Android Phone
If you are using any other smartphones other than Oppo, OnePlus and Vivo, you force enable dark mode by following the steps mentioned below:
- Open settings
- Go to “About phone”
- Scroll down and find “Build Number”.
- Click on the build number seven times in a row
- You will get a popup message saying “You are now a developer”.
- Back to settings
- Go to “System”and click on “Developer Options”.
- Scroll down and find the option to “cancel forced dimming”.
- Enable the option by turning on the switch
- Once this is enabled, your Snapchat app will be put into dark mode.
Enabling the forced dimming option will essentially invert the color scheme on your phone and apps on the phone will have dark text with bright text. This will affect all apps, not just the Snapchat app.
Note. After the new update, the Snapchat app changed the theme to dark. So the only workaround for this feature at the moment is to install an older version of the app. To do this, you can go to APK Mirror or any other reliable APK download site and download Snapchat version 10.72.0.0 on your phone. By installing this version of the app, you can follow the above steps and enable dark mode on the Snapchat app.
