Chinese giant Tencent acquires a majority stake in Tequila Works.
By becoming the referent shareholder of Tequila Works, Tencent acquired an independent studio founded in Madrid in 2009, which has become the source of several gems such as RiME, Deadlight, GYLT and The Sexy Brutale. By focusing on developing Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story for the Riot Forge label for several months, Tequila Works may help Riot Games expand the League of Legends license with high-quality experiences in the future.
“Tequila Works’ creativity and attention to detail has resulted in games that have delighted audiences around the world,” said Pete Smith, VP of Global Partnerships, Tencent Games. “We look forward to working together with the team and building on these foundations to realize their exciting ambitions for future games.”
Raúl Rubio, CEO of Tequila Works, added: “Tencent is a partner capable of appreciating the value of high-level creative talent whose originality is the banner. A partner that respects our independence and creative freedom. This partnership will allow us to focus on taking the original IPs we are known for to new heights and create the best experience we can dream of. ”
