Tesla is phasing out mobile chargers in its new US vehicles. And in France?
Buying an electric car is not as “easy”as buying a thermal car, since it is often necessary to invest in some more or less important accessories, such as a charger. Until now, Tesla has included a mobile charger with its vehicles. Unfortunately, this will no longer be the case.
Tesla is removing the mobile charger from its new US vehicles
Tesla just stopped including its mobile charger in new cars. The change was first spotted by Twitter user Tesla_Adri and confirmed shortly thereafter by brand CEO Elon Musk. The accessory, currently sold separately for $275, allows you to plug your Tesla into a wall outlet and get 3 to 5 km of range after one hour of charging.
“Usage statistics were very low, so it seemed like a waste,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in response to a comment by someone who commented on the information after it was shared by investor Sawyer Merritt. “In terms of value, we are going to include more adapters in the mobile charger package.”
And in France?
Elon Musk tweeted some time later that Tesla would also drop the price of this mobile charger to $200 and make it easier to buy at the same time as a new car. The American multi-billionaire was also quick to clarify that there is no need for a Tesla charging adapter in a blower or a Tesla wall outlet installed in your home. At the moment, the brand’s website indicates that the charging kit is out of stock.
As Electrek points out, this is not the first time Tesla has removed the charging cable in this way. The company previously supplied its vehicles with Level 1 and Level 2 connectors before discontinuing the latter.
Note that Tesla France has not yet confirmed whether the mobile connector will also be removed from EV deliveries in France. At the moment, this only applies to customers across the Atlantic.
