The event will once again feature musical performances, including the return of The Game Awards Orchestra conducted by Lorne Balfe. IMAX will once again partner with TGS 2022 to create The Game Awards: The IMAX Experience, a live community event in cities around the world.

The new prize will be revealed during The Game Awards 2022

The Game Awards 2022 will feature a “Best Adaptation”category, recognizing creative work that authentically adapts video game intellectual property to other popular media, including but not limited to movies in theaters, streaming shows, podcasts, novels and comics.

Jeff Keighley, creator and executive producer of The Game Awards, said:

The Best Adaptation Award is a way for the gaming industry and its fans to take their hats off to creative work that faithfully adapts and often adds lore and context to our favorite game franchises. With so many video game-inspired entertainment projects, it’s time to celebrate excellence in adapting video game universes to other mediums.
