The Pokémon Company: Junichi Masuda Joins the Board of Directors and Leaves Game Freak

The Pokémon Company Board of Directors welcomes Junichi Masuda as Chief Creative Officer.

Co-creator, composer and producer of the Pokémon license since the late 1990s, Junichi Masuda is officially leaving his former position as CEO of Game Freak to become creative director of The Pokemon Company. This essentially means that while he no longer has to be directly involved in the development of Pokemon games, he will now focus on managing the brand as a whole to develop new services and products using his years of experience and his creative thinking.

“I have directed the Pokémon video game series from Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, and have been involved in the development of many spin-offs including Pokémon Go,” said Junichi Masuda, Chief Creative Officer of The Pokémon company. “I want to express my sincere gratitude to all Pokemon fans. In the future, I hope to go beyond video games, trying to bring more surprises, fun and excitement to people around the world, doing my best to bring people together, expand the circle of play and promote a richer world to share. I appreciate your continued support in my new role.”
