CD Projekt Red has confirmed that they will now take over the remaining work on the next generation version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. As a result, the game’s Q2 release was delayed, meaning the game will release later in 2022, or possibly even later.
The next generation version of The Witcher 3 was previously outsourced to developer Saber Interactive, but now CD Projekt Red has moved development back to the company. The studio did not elaborate on this decision and explained that they are currently “evaluating the amount of work ahead”, which is the reason for the delay.
CD Projekt Red has a lot of work to do right now, including the recently announced sequel to The Witcher, as well as DLC and improvements for Cyberpunk 2077.
Witcher 3 Next-Gen version delayed after development was returned to the company
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is considered one of the best games of the last generation and is often cited as one of the best games ever made. Given its incredible reception, it’s no surprise that fans are eagerly awaiting the chance to experience the game on next-gen consoles.
Earlier this week, CD Projekt Red also confirmed that work on Cyberpunk 2077 is still active and they will be looking to improve the game as well as add new expansions in the near future.
Delaying the next generation version of The Witcher 3 might not be great news for fans right now, but it’s probably the studio’s best decision. While the game has since saved and even improved its reputation a bit, Cyberpunk 2077 was received rather negatively at launch as it was released in an unfinished state.
The studio will likely try to avoid such complications in the future, so a delay seems like the best solution.
