The Witcher remake was codenamed Canis Majoris.
Currently in early development at Fool’s Theory, made up of many experienced developers who have worked on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the past, The Witcher Remake (formerly The Witcher Canis Majoris) is being produced by A to Z with Unreal Engine 5 and the toolset CD Projekt RED is building for the new Witcher saga.
We’re excited to announce that we’re working with @Fools_Theory on a remake of The Witcher using Unreal Engine 5 (codename: Canis Majoris)!
We want to get it right, so please be patient – it will be a while before we can share more details.

Adam Badowski, head of Polish studio CD Projekt RED, said:
The Witcher is where it all started for us. This is the first game we made and it was a big moment for us. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of players is just as important, if not more so. Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on this project is equally exciting, as some of the people who work there have previously been involved in The Witcher games. They know the original product well, they know how much gamers have been waiting for this remake, and they know how to make amazingly ambitious games. While it will be a while before we’re ready to reveal more about the game, I know it’s worth the wait.
The Witcher will be completely remade for the new generation
The announcement of the remake of The Witcher is dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the release of the first game The Witcher based on the novels of the writer Andrzej Sapkowski.
Jakub Rokosh, CEO of Fool’s Theory, adds:
I am very happy that my professional paths have once again crossed paths with fellow developers since working together on The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3. heart. We’re thrilled to be joining forces with CD Projekt RED to bring players another great game from the iconic The Witcher series.
