Telltale Games is pushing back The Wolf Among Us 2 release beyond 2023 to ease the transition to the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine and not overburden developers.
After several postponements, cancellations and reboots, The Wolf Among Us 2 from Telltale Games and AdHoc Studio will now release when it’s ready:
We know that learning is unpleasant. We started working on this project in 2020 and are still determined to tell the continuation of the adventures of Bigby and the rest of the Fabletown gang. However, this will take longer. As disappointed as you are, we feel even worse for having to say this. But the work continues. We are committed to doing everything that fans deserve and doing our best to keep the game running smoothly while protecting the health of our team.
The Wolf Among Us 2 is being developed under good conditions
Jamie Ottile, CEO of Telltale Games, doesn’t want to introduce a toxic work culture into the development of The Wolf Among Us 2:
If we release this game and it’s not ready, we’ll be destroyed. Expectations are quite high and we want to have time to live up to them, we want to be proud of it and know that this is the best game we could make. Let the world say what it wants when the game is over, but at least we know that in these times and conditions, this is the best game we could ever make. I’ve crunched in the past and I don’t want to do it again and it’s not fair to ask. You can’t build a business on this. So yes, part of that is maintaining a healthy work culture. We don’t want to tire our good people. Recruiting has been incredibly difficult over the past two years due to COVID, the labor market situation and the growth of the gaming industry. So definitely boring people or humiliating them in the long run is the wrong thing to do. That’s not how you build a business. And as an industry, we’re awfully bad at it. We are burning our employees. We wear out our best people faster. And as an industry, if we want to keep growing, we have to stop it. The Wolf Among Us 2 will release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
