TikTok is launching its Creator Program in the US, a new initiative meant to be better than the Creator Fund.
TikTok is currently launching a new program conceived in the US to help content creators increase revenue and “open more opportunities.” The Creation Agenda builds on initiatives such as the Creators Fund. TikTok wrote on his blog that he used feedback from his previous projects to develop this new program.
TikTok launches Creation Program in the US
Details are still scarce at this point, but TikTok explains that the creator program is by invitation only before it becomes available to all eligible creators in the United States in the coming months. Participants must be at least 18 years of age; have a minimum number of subscribers and views on their videos; and have an account with a good reputation. TikTok does not specify the number of followers required, but a previous report suggested setting a threshold of 100,000 followers, well above the 10,000 requested for the Creators Fund.
TikTok explains that in addition to meeting these purely numerical criteria, users must post “high-quality original content longer than a minute”to be eligible for compensation through the Creativity Program. And creators will be able to view video compliance after updating the toolbar. You can also see the estimated revenue and performance data for each video.
A new initiative that should work better than the Creators Foundation
Many creators have denounced TikTok, with some claiming to have received payouts of just a few dollars for videos viewed millions of times. The TikTok Creator Fund was launched in 2020 with an initial balance of $200 million. Shortly thereafter, the company said it was helping several hundred thousand authors in more than $2 billion over the next three years in this way. TikTok did not elaborate on the budget allocated for this new creation program, but confirmed to TechCrunch that with this new formula, it will “provide a higher average revenue for eligible videos.”
TikTok has begun rolling out the Creation Program in the US after initial testing in France and Brazil in recent months. According to numerous reports, the company has other monetization plans. This notably includes the ability for creators to post videos behind a paywall.
