Titanium frame will reduce iPhone 15 Pro’s weight by 10% and add to visual appeal

Apple is set to announce the new iPhone 15 series at the Wanderlust event on September 12. As we are about three days away from the event, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has come up with final details about the event in the latest report.

In his report, Gurman mentions that Pro models will be the headline of the event. He has cleared that Apple will not go with the Ultra moniker this year as some rumors have suggested. Instead, the top-of-the-line iPhone will be named the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature a titanium frame instead of a stainless steel frame.

iPhone 15 Pro & Pro Max Titanium frame

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, similar to the previous Pro iPhones. However, the screens of the upcoming iPhones will appear to be larger, thanks to slimmer bezels. Gurman says that bezels on the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will be 1/3rd thinner in comparison to previous models.

To make bezels slimmer, Apple has deployed a new manufacturing process called LIPO, or low-injection pressure overmolding.

The titanium frame on iPhones will have a brushed frame and will no longer be a fingerprint magnet like the current iPhone lineup. Additional benefits that titanium frame will bring to upcoming iPhones are a reduction of 10% in weight and increased durability.

“The devices will retain the frosted glass back of current models, but the edges connecting the side and front are now less sharp than before,” writes Bloomberg in the report.

More details of iPhone 15 series

Apple will continue the tradition of including last year’s chip in the standard iPhones and including a new chip in the Pro models. iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will retain the A16 Bionic chipset from last year’s Pro iPhones, whereas the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will have the A17 Bionic, based on the new 3nm fabrication process of TSMC.

Gurman mentions in the report that the biggest enhancements in the Pro iPhones will be longer battery life.

In addition to the battery life, the A17 chip will also bring performance upgrades.

The camera department will also see major improvements across the lineup. Standard iPhone 15 models will get a 48-megapixel sensor, which will be a big upgrade from the current 12MP snapper.

The high-end iPhone 15 Pro Max will get the much-anticipated periscope lens that will bump the optical zoom capabilities from 3X to 6X.
