Twitch to ban streaming gambling sites without proper license

Twitch will ban gambling streams. Only betting on sports, fantasy sports and poker is allowed. This is done in order to avoid fraud and protect the little ones.

Twitch recently announced significant changes to its ban policy due to concerns about the presence of gambling streams on the platform. On Twitter, Twitch said it would ban the streaming of gaming sites offering unlicensed slots, roulette and other dice games in the US and other countries around the world that “provide sufficient consumer protection.”This change will go into effect on October 18, and Twitch promises to release full details before then.

To date, the banned list includes some well-known sites such as Stake.com, Rollbit.com, Duelbits.com, and Roobet.com. Which is not surprising since you can already find a lot of Twitch streams with gambling content from these domains. Twitch explains that it will be able to “identify others”over time, so the list of banned sites should grow in the coming months. The platform, however, will still allow sites focused on certain types of gambling, such as sports betting, fantasy sports and poker, to operate.

Twitch issued the statement below after some very popular streamers on the platform, including Pokimane and DevinNash, threatened to boycott it during the Christmas week unless it banned gambling streams and related sponsors. They came together in response to the streamer’s admission that he admitted to cheating subscribers and other streamers in order to earn around $200,000 and fuel his addiction to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

As Kotaku explains, CS:GO offers weapon skins that can be exchanged for real money, and some gaming sites use them as casino chips. This revelation reopened the gambling discussion on Twitch, with people rightly pointing out that it could lead to dishonest behavior among streamers and have serious repercussions for young users of the platform.
