Twitter lets you “opt out” of a conversation

Twitter is testing the ability to leave a conversation and thus no longer be mentioned in every reply.

Twitter is an easy-to-use platform that doesn’t offer many features, staying very simple as some would say, but constantly iterating to improve the user experience. This often includes testing new options that are easy but sometimes very useful. Such is the case today with a feature that can be very interesting in certain cases, namely the ability to walk away from a conversation.

Twitter may not (yet) have an “edit”button, but it is currently testing another very useful everyday feature, especially for the most popular accounts. The social platform is rolling out a feature that allows you to “opt out,” in other words, opt out of being mentioned, of the conversation. Right now this is just a test and only users of the web version can enjoy it and click the “leave this conversation”option in the tweet options if they no longer want to be notified every time someone replies to said conversation.

and thus no longer mentioned with every answer

According to Twitter, the feature is currently only available to select users starting today. No one knows if this option will be rolled out on a large scale, much less when. It is also impossible to know if it will be offered on mobile apps. In its current form, in any case, the text of the mention remains, the system simply no longer sends notifications to the departed user.

The company has tested and/or rolled out a number of features to save mentions, including an anti-retaliation mode that automatically blocks intruders. This, however, should be much more practical in everyday life. Twitter users often receive unwanted mentions from relatives, spammers, and others. This option will give them more control over whether they join the conversation or not.
