Uber Integrates Driver Tracking into iPhone Lock Screen

Uber is updating its app to take advantage of Live Activity in iOS 16, and the home screen is also getting more interesting.

Uber has released an update to its iPhone app that lets users see at a glance when it’s time to go looking for the driver you’ve booked. In fact, the company has introduced support for Live Activity, a feature in iOS 16 that allows you to display real-time events from compatible apps on the lock screen and Dynamic Island of the iPhone 14 app when your device is unlocked.

Uber is updating its app to use Live Activity in iOS 16.

Using an Uber Live Activity takes the form of a small window that shows your driver’s current progress, an updated ETA, and the status of your ride, such as whether your driver is already waiting or the ride has ended. This window also displays the type of vehicle and license plate of the expected driver.

According to MacRumors, Apple announced that Uber will support Live Activity during last year’s WWDC, and the feature has been testing in select countries over the past few months. This global rollout now allows everyone to take advantage of this new feature. A spokesperson for the company also told the American blog that the Uber Eats app will be eligible for the same functionality in the coming months. This should make you salivate even more!

The home screen also gets more interesting

In addition to using Live Activity in iOS 16, Uber has also updated its app to make it easier to use the home screen. It now has a new Services tab where you can find all of the company’s services available in your city, as well as a new Activity Center that displays all of Eats’ past and upcoming trips and bookings. This is to be valued daily.
