Joyroom car adapter review: utilitarian design and build

The Joyroom car charger has such an extensive range of features that I’m confused where to start. In addition, it is compact and weighs only 44 grams, which further reassures me that the device will not fall out during bumpy rides.

Let’s take a look at all its features in a 5×4.5×7 cm form factor. It displays Bluetooth status, bass mode and FM radio voltage or frequency. When you plug this device in, you will notice that the LED indicators will light up, which you can control with the button to the left of the device, and the display panel will come to life.

Above the display is a pair of microphones that help you make hands-free calls. These microphones are also equipped with the latest CVC 8.0 noise canceling technology, which helps to block out various wind and traffic noises, providing clear audio during calls.

Below the display, we have a USB-C port and a couple of USB-A ports. In terms of ports, the device is also equipped with an AUX output port that allows you to connect the device to your car stereo and play music via Bluetooth (version 5.3) or a second USB-A port that supports a flash drive. The AUX port outputs CD quality audio.

The bass and call receiver buttons sit next to the ports, which also function as an FM radio scroll wheel and volume control. On the right side of the device, there are “previous”and “next”buttons that allow you to skip to the next song or repeat the previous one. On the left we have a button that controls the LED lighting, just below the AUX port.

How to access FM radio

If your car stereo does not support FM radio, the Joyroom car charger is the perfect solution for you. It can help you connect to the radio and transmit sound through the car’s audio system. This is made possible by the AUX output port, which outputs music in CD quality.

You need to press and hold the knob under the bass button to turn on the FM radio mode. Turning the knob adjusts the FM radio frequency shown on the unit’s displays. The Joyroom Car Charger features a USB-C PD port delivering up to 30W of power and a USB-A QC 3.0 port with a maximum output of 18W. Here is the power rating for both ports:

USB-C PD Port: 5V=3A, 9V=3A, 12V=2.5A, 15V=2A, 20V=1.5A (max 30W)
USB-A QC 3.0: 5V=3A, 9V=2A, 12V=1.5A (Max. 18W)

By connecting your iPhone via USB-C, you can charge your iPhone with 20-25W. This means your iPhone will charge from 0 to 50% in 30 minutes. The USB-A port is also Quick Charge 3.0 certified, delivering a maximum power output of 18W. Again, you can expect almost 0-50% battery life in 30-45 minutes.

Even when both ports are busy, the total maximum power output of the Joyroom Car Charger is a whopping 48W. Connect your Mac and iPhone to the Joyroom car charger and get almost full speed charging with it.

Is the JOYROOM car charger worth the money?

The Joyroom car charger is priced at $24.99. Someone might argue that for this price you can buy 2 car chargers. But this is only partly true, since this is not just a car charger, but a set of other useful features. It does everything from charging your gadgets to acting as a Bluetooth receiver.
