If you haven’t heard yet, there’s a useful new permanent signing utility for downloadable apps in town called TrollStore from iOS developer opa334, and because it works with both jailbroken iOS and iPadOS 14.0-14.8.1 devices and non-jailbroken iOS and iPadOS devices 15.0-15.1.1, they seem to be really taking the community by storm.
With TrollStore, users can completely bypass the App Store and install files. ipa, which will be permanently signed using a known exploit in the versions supported above. This means you won’t be re-subscribing apps every seven days when using a free Apple Developer account or every year when using a paid Apple Developer account.
Despite many updates since the initial release, the developer has not stopped trying to improve the final product. Two more updates, released on Monday, will presumably improve the user experience going forward for those who require the utility’s useful permanent signature capabilities. We’ll discuss what’s new in each version below.
Version 1.0.6 – Released on Monday, September 5th.
This update was released simply to fix application plugins. In addition, to make the plug-in functionality work with already installed and signed applications, users can use the “Rebuild icon cache”function in the internal settings of the TrollStore application.
Version 1.0.7 – Released on Monday, September 5th.
This update is a bit more complex than the first one, improving a lot of the features in the TrollStore app. These improvements include:
- Prevent application from being re-signed when the main binary is already signed with a fake root certificate.
- Prevent an application from being re-signed if its TSBundlePreSigned key is set to YES in its plist file.
- Display error when ldid is not set and application is not signed, not installed
- Improving rights dumping with a system API instead of custom file parsing code.
Both updates described above are available on the official TrollStore project page on GitHub, but if you have the intention of installing TrollStore for the first time or upgrading from an older version, then we obviously recommend downloading and installing the latest version, i.e. version 1.0. 7 at the time of writing.
TrollStore does not currently support A9 iPhones or iPads, which is important to keep in mind if you have one of these devices and intend to use this utility.
