As one of the most well-known brands among PC enthusiasts and gamers, ASUS has been in the smartphone market for quite some time and over time the company has developed its own line of smartphones. While ASUS doesn’t have a big portfolio when it comes to smartphones, every year it’s expected to release a flagship Zenfone and gaming phone ROG Phone, and this year will be no exception.
As CES kicks off tomorrow, many electronics, smartphone and PC manufacturers will announce their plans and new products. While we haven’t heard anything from ASUS this time around about CES, it’s clear that ASUS doesn’t want to be left behind when it comes to releasing new phones with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, and those phones could be ASUS Zenfone 6 and ROG Phone 6.
While it has yet to be confirmed when ASUS will introduce these phones, some design sketches have been leaked online and it looks like ASUS wants to keep its heritage alive by offering phones with unique designs that bring value to users. According to the latest EqualLeaks report, the Zenfone 9 will significantly change the Zenfone 8, which is currently sold internationally.
ASUS Zenfone 9 will get an additional display
Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip from ASUS were completely different. The Zenfone 8 Flip, as the name suggests, came with a flip camera mechanism that became quite popular overnight, and it was something new. But with the Zenfone 9, the company has ditched the flip camera and opted for a more traditional camera on the back. At least that’s what this screenshot found on the ZenTalk forums shows.
However, the report claims that there will be an additional display next to the camera module. Below the camera module and secondary display, the area will be mostly blank, and ASUS may have added an in-display fingerprint scanner instead of the rear-mounted one. However, the back is also touch sensitive and users will be able to use simple touch gestures on the back to trigger simple actions like taking a photo or screenshot, turning the flashlight on or off.
ROG Phone 6 retained an additional display
ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro may be two identical devices in terms of design compared to ROG Phone 5. However, the camera placement will be slightly different. ASUS ROG Phone 6 will have the ROG logo next to the ROG Phone 6 branding, while ROG Phone 6 Pro will only have the ROG logo.
While both phones will have secondary displays, ROG Phone 6 will have a narrower display, while ROG Phone 6 Pro will offer a larger secondary display. That’s all we know at the moment, but we hope to have more details on the upcoming phones from ASUS in the coming days, including hardware specs and camera, so stay tuned.
