Are you in need of Locket, the latest trendy photo sharing app?

Locket is a photo sharing app with a rather unique concept. But do you really need it? Presentation, explanation.

The latest photo-sharing app, Locket, recently raised a staggering $12.5 million to develop it, bringing it into the limelight when it was almost completely unknown. After launching on January 1 this year, it has over 20 million downloads to date, but it remains a thousand leagues compared to its peers, Instagram or BeReal. Instagram is increasingly video-centric while BeReal is still focused on everyday unfiltered photos, but how is Locket different?

What is a medallion?

Locket lets you take photos and send them directly to your friends home screen. For this to work, you and your friends must:

  1. Download the “Locket Widget”app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Add each other to the app.
  3. Add a widget to your home screen.

You can’t use this service without adding a widget to your home screen, but that’s the whole point. And if none of your friends use the locket, you’ll have to convince them. (A friend of mine was having trouble adding the widget to the home screen, another downloaded it when I forwarded the link to him and didn’t ask any questions. Another replied, “Oh no, I’m completely ignoring BeReal already.”)

The interest of this app is to send photos you take directly to your friends home screen so they can see them as soon as they open their phone. If the system is not configured, it will not work.

How to use the medallion?

Once you’ve added your friends, you can take photos at any time and send them directly to your home screen. You can’t edit photos at all, there are no filters or overlays, and you can’t add photos from your library. It’s just a matter of the photos currently taken by the front or rear camera. In this respect, it is very similar to BeReal.

You can choose which people on your friends list will receive the photos. You can send a photo to a group of friends or to one person; and you can also add multiple medallion widgets to your home screen if you want a separate entry for your love or best friend and another for everyone else’s photos. When your friends send images to your locket, those images will be displayed in widgets on your screen, you will see them when you unlock your phone or switch between apps.

Is it worth installing the Locket Widget app?

Locket is available on the App Store and Google Play, but you probably don’t need it, just like you don’t need BeReal or Dimensional. In any case, when you play a little, you will quickly get into the game. If a certain number of your friends download the app, you will definitely see how they send you photos – selfies, fake photos. and others – regularly, but this is forgotten very quickly.

Instead, think of Locket as a more intimate version of Snapchat and an evolving version of Bereal: you can share what you’re doing with your loved ones at any time without having to edit or think about it.
