Netflix has ordered Warlord to star Jason Momoa as the warlord.
Created by Jason Momoa and Thomas Paa Sibbett, Chief of War, an eight-episode television series for the Apple TV+ streaming platform, tells the epic and unprecedented story of the unification and colonization of Hawaii from the perspective of local residents. The project, curated by Endeavor Content and Chernin Entertainment, is the first for an American comedian as a screenwriter: “Have you ever seen the way Hawaiian history is presented? Not really. Why doesn’t it matter? It’s such a new topic that I wanted to make sure I’m talking to everyone on Apple TV+ that I’m saying the right thing. For me, this is a kind of apotheosis, the pinnacle. This is my Dances with Wolves, my Braveheart, my Last of the Mohicans…”
Jason Momoa and Thomas Paa Sibbett are executive producers along with Francis Lawrence, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Eric Holmberg and Doug Young, who also serves as showrunner. Justin Chong is in talks to direct the first two episodes.
