Fugu15 Max 8th Public Beta brings iOS 15.0-15.4.1 jailbreak closer to arm64e devices

Developer Lars Fröder (@opa334) took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to announce the release of Fugu15 Max Beta 8, the latest in a series of public betas meant for developer testing.

Referring to the tweet, the Fugu15 Max beta 8 has achieved a level of stability that Fröder considers “usable”for the average user. Basically what this means is that beta 8 is probably stable enough for non-developers to install and play with, however Fröder specifically discourages this until it’s out of beta.

As for the final release, Fröder didn’t give an exact ETA, but says it won’t be anytime soon as there are still some things to figure out. Freder also warned that anyone who installs the beta before the final release will have to be content with a complete cleanup of their bootstrap, and that there is no way around this.

As for what’s new in Beta 8 Fugu15 Max, Freder said it’s primarily a bug fix update with some workarounds to hide or remove the jailbreak environment. The full changelog on the GitHub page is below:

List of changes:

– Added workaround for fork() and vfork() inside hooked processes (previously child process crashed instantly) – Even better setuid solution (thanks @sbingner) – Updated Sileo to version 2.4.4 – Added ability to hide/delete jailbreak environment to app, accessible by long press on jailbreak button (stop solution to final version with proper UI), USE ONLY IF NOT HACKED – Warning that appears after jailbreak now has a button to reload userspace (stop resolving spacebar to final version with proper UI)

What is still missing for the final release:

– Custom name/UI – User friendly – Custom hooks for icon cache and settings – libkrw – Fully working builds of Sileo/Zebra

Known Issues:

– For some users Sileo crashes on startup, there is no current fix or workaround for this, a proper fix is awaiting Sileo developers A proper fix is expected by Zebra developers – When something intercepts a C function inside, userspace reloading stops, this is a problem in Ellekit and it will be fixed soon – Spinlock panic, don’t know what causes it, may be a late side effect of one of the exploits – some kind of race condition pmap panic, don’t know what’s causing this either, but I think it’s probably a bug somewhere in the environment – on 15.0 – 15.3.1 you need to disable Wi-Fi completely while logdjailbreaking

Notes:

– The final jailbreak will have a different name – This jailbreak is not rooted, rooted packages are not supported – Default password for: (rootyou alpineneed to install openssh from your package manager /private/preboot) so don’t do that?

For tweak developers:

– Update theos to the latest version, then you can build for rootless access via – Save/load settings either via the cfprefsd API or internally (final jb will have a cfprefsd hook to redirect all non-standard stuff to that path) – You need to compile everything for non-root – all dependencies must be compiled for non-root and saved in – you need to put every former root path you access through the macros defined in rootless.h – you need to compile with Xcode 12 or newer or your dylib process will crash (if you don’t want to lose iOS 12/13 arm64e support, you still need to compile your root packages with Xcode 11) IPC (for now? someday? who knows?) THEOS_PACKAGE_SCHEME=rootless
/var/jb/var/mobile/Library/Preferences $THEOS/lib/iphone/rootless

We have known for a long time that Fugu15 Max is only a working title for the project and that Fröder will give it its own name before the official public release. The above line of the tweet noted that the name would be revealed soon, but the official name has yet to be revealed.

If you are still in doubt about whether to try Fugu15 Max, we still recommend waiting for the official public release. With any luck, it won’t take long and users will be able to start enjoying all the great no-root jailbreak tweaks for iOS and iPadOS 15 that we’ve seen lately.

Fugu15 Max is only for arm64e devices (iPhone XS and later) running iOS and iPadOS 15.0-15.4.1. The latest public beta is available on the project’s GitHub page, and is currently mostly for developers only.
