Rich Apple Maps data available in Finland, Norway and Sweden
“Apple Maps is the best way to explore and navigate the world while protecting your privacy,”Apple’s Eddie Cue said in a statement translated from the Apple Sweden website. “We’re excited to bring this experience to even more users with the new features we’re launching today.”Customers from the aforementioned European countries can now enjoy enhanced map data on their iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Improvements include:
- 3D landmarks
- Domestic cards at airports
- Natural Language Guide
- More detailed roads and parks
- Faster and more accurate navigation
- More accurate location information
- Look around with Google Street View
- Walking tours in augmented reality
This is a server-side change, so an iOS update is not required to use advanced maps.
This is the first time that customers in the above countries have access to some of Maps’ coolest features, such as detailed 3D landmarks and Look Around. Feel free to check out 3D views of landmarks such as Olofsborg in Finland, Akershus Fortress in Norway, and Palmhuset in Sweden.
Enjoying the look around
Look Around is a feature similar to Google Street View that provides street level photography. If Apple has collected Look Around images for any given location, tap the binoculars icon that appears on the map to explore seamless 360-degree panoramic views. If you want to use AR turn-by-turn directions, tap the cube icon, raise your iPhone, and follow the on-screen instructions.
