WhatsApp “would like”to offer an iPad version of its service. Will she see the light soon?
In the Apple ecosystem, WhatsApp can only be used on iPhones, and on Macs, you must use the desktop app or the web version. There have been many rumors that WhatsApp might launch an iPad version of its app, but to date, this has yet to happen. However, there is hope on this front .
WhatsApp ‘would like’ to offer an iPad version of its service
Indeed, in an interview with The Verge, Will Cathcart, head of WhatsApp, told the US publication: “People have wanted an iPad app for a long time. And we would like to do it.” Will Cathcart also hinted that the company had already laid the groundwork for a tablet version of WhatsApp when it introduced support for multiple devices last year.
Will she see the light soon?
In the words of Will Cathcart himself: “We have done a lot of work on technologies to support multiple devices. Our web and desktop apps have it. If I have cross device enabled, I may turn off my phone or lose network connection and still receive messages on his computer. For a tablet app, it would be very important to be able to use the app even when your smartphone is not turned on. The necessary underlying technology already exists.”
It’s hard to know if this interest in the iPad app means the company is just interested, or if it’s already started working on it. Time will show. Who knows, maybe an iPad version of WhatsApp will see the light of day very soon. But until then, you’ll have to be patient and always keep your smartphone or computer handy when you’re on your iPad!
