Wing expands drone delivery service to Ireland

Wing will open a drone delivery service in Ireland. The (small) town of Lusk was chosen.

With the evolution of regulations in the European Union regarding drones, drone delivery specialist Wing has announced a new service area in Lusk, Ireland. The opening is scheduled for the next few weeks.

Wing to launch drone delivery service in Ireland

Wing currently offers drone delivery to four cities – Christiansburg, Virginia, Helsinki, Finland, as well as Logan and Canberra, Australia. So with Lusk in Ireland, that would be five cities where customers can receive their orders via drones. Wing says it has chosen Ireland as its next area of operation because the country has opened the door to drone technology and is “a great incubator for future innovation.”The company says it is using its existing partnerships and permits in Finland to support its activities in Ireland, including recognition from the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA).

The (small) city of Lusk was chosen

The company also explains that it hopes to use Lusk as a test city to expand its operations in Europe in the future and gain more experience in terms of integrating its services into the local community. That being said, since Lusk and its population is less than 100,000, Wing’s next expansion should be on a smaller scale. The Company also readily acknowledges that its business in Ireland will operate differently from its other business services currently operating in the US, Australia and Finland.

Wing recently said the company has just completed its 300,000th drone delivery and continues to look for ways to use autonomous aircraft to replace deliveries made by much less efficient internal combustion vehicles.
