WWDC 2022: New 13-inch MacBook Pro M2 unlikely to arrive with MacBook Air

WWDC 2022 launches today at 10:30 pm ET. The Apple event will be hosted virtually for viewers around the world. At the event, the company is expected to announce iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, and more. In addition, according to rumors, the company will release a new MacBook Air with an M2 chip. There have also been rumors that the new MacBook Pro M2 will debut alongside the Air M2 at WWDC 2022. Those looking forward to the new MacBook Pro M2 may be disappointed by the latest information.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that the new M2-powered MacBook Pro is unlikely to be unveiled at WWDC 2022. Let’s take a look at more details on the MacBook Pro M2 launch and what else to expect from WWDC 2022.

No MacBook Pro M2 at WWDC 2022

Apple is unlikely to introduce a new MacBook Pro M2 at WWDC 2022. The launch of the Pro machine is delayed due to quarantine in China. Gurman, in his Power On newsletter (via 9to5Mac), stated that Apple planned to release a faster 13-inch MacBook Pro around the same time as the new Air. However, due to quarantine in China, the launch could be delayed even further. Gurman did not reveal a new launch timeline, but did say the machine will look just like the current 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro, minus the Touch Bar.

As for the M2 chip, it was previously reported that the new Apple Silicon M-series will have an eight-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. Of course, it will be more powerful than the standard M1 chip, but will be inferior to the M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips in terms of performance and efficiency.

Gurman also revealed some details about the MacBook Air M2. The analyst said the new design is “no different”from the latest MacBook Pro. It will be launched in new colors that will include navy blue, gold, space gray and silver.

Apple will release the MacBook Air with a 13-inch display. It won’t come with a mini LED bar or support ProMotion, which is currently exclusive to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. The M2 Air will have two USB Type-C ports and MagSafe charging. Finally, there will be Touch ID to securely unlock the laptop.

At WWDC 2022, Apple announces iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13 and more. There is a chance that a new Mac Pro with the M1 Ultra chip will be presented at the event today. You can click here for more information on what to expect from WWDC 2022.
