YouMute adds a mute button to the playback interface of the YouTube app.

When using the YouTube app to watch videos from the iPhone, one control is clearly missing from the interface – a button to instantly mute or unmute the video.

iOS developer PoomSmart addressed this issue this week by releasing a new free jailbreak tweak called YouMute that adds a dedicated mute and unmute button to the YouTube video playback interface, as shown in the example screenshots embedded above.

When the sound is on, the mute button looks like a normal speaker button. When muted, the mute button instead resembles a speaker button with a line through it.

The button looks as native as it could be in a YouTube interface, which is a welcome sight in a world where third-party interfaces are raging that sometimes match or don’t match the existing user interface, so we get an A plus from us. aesthetics. It’s also worth noting that the button appears in both landscape and portrait orientations when watching a video in the YouTube app.

But beyond beauty, a button is only useful if it works, and we’re happy to report that YouMute works exactly as it should without any bugs! One touch is much more convenient than trying to twist the volume button and waiting until it reaches zero. In addition, it remembers your volume level, so you can return to it with one touch after muting.

YouMute supports the latest version of the YouTube app, which is 17.46.4 at the time of this writing, on jailbroken iOS 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 devices. If you’re interested in getting it, you can download it for free from PoomSmart’s personal repository via your favorite package management app.

Those who are not yet fully using the PoomSmart personal repository can add it to their package manager app at the URL below:
