YouTube TV is losing Disney content today, but its price is dropping

YouTube TV is losing Disney content in its catalog but is adjusting prices accordingly.

If you are a YouTube TV subscriber, you should take note of the following information that YouTube recently announced. Indeed, the American giant has announced that as of today, Friday, December 17, 2021, all Disney content currently available on the platform has been removed. This decision follows the end of a licensing agreement signed with Disney.

Keep in mind that it is possible that this is only temporary. Indeed, according to YouTube, Mountain View is in talks with Disney specifically about bringing this content back to its platform. The original agreement expired on December 17, 2021. The two parties were unable to agree on an extension until today, so YouTube was forced to remove the content.

but adjust the price accordingly

According to a press release from the American giant: “Disney is an important partner for us. We talk to them and work hard to get their content on YouTube TV. Our request to Disney, and to all of our partners in this regard, is to treat YouTube TV like any TV service provider, offering us the same prices as services of similar importance on Disney Channels while we we can offer them.

That said, the disappearance of Disney content from the catalog—temporary or not—has happy consequences for subscribers. YouTube TV will cut its rate by $15. This means that the monthly subscription is now reduced from $64.99 to $49.99. There is no doubt that the rate will return to its “normal”value if Disney content returns one day. I hope this doesn’t lead to a churn of subscribers, at least for a fairly small number of subscribers. To be continued!
