On the second day of Oppo Inno Day 2021, the company took the wraps off its long-awaited new generation of foldable smartphone, the Oppo Find N. The latter has been reported for a while now, and has finally been unveiled with flagship specs as you’d expect from a premium device. Oppo has mainly focused on the hinge design as well as the crease in the foldable display, taking pictures at Samsung to claim how its own hinge design has been certified by TUV Rheinland due to its lack of creases.
Oppo Find N: key features
The Oppo Find N is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC and comes with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. There is also a variant with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The device is powered by a 4,500mAh battery with 33W SuperVOOC fast charging standard, which is claimed to provide 55 percent power in 30 minutes of charging and 100 percent in 70 minutes. It also supports 15W AirVOOC wireless charging with compatible Qi chargers, as well as 10W reverse wireless charging for compatible devices.
The device has a side fingerprint sensor on the edge, which is integrated into the power button. The foldable smartphone also has a Dolby Atmos-certified dual-speaker system instead of a four-speaker option, given the tablet-like design. The triple rear camera is equipped with a 50MP Sony IMX766 main camera, as well as a 16MP ultra wide-angle camera and a 13MP telephoto camera. The inner display has a drilled hole for the selfie camera on the left corner, while the outer display also has a front-facing camera.
Now let’s move on to the main theme of Oppo Inno Day 2021 – the design of the display and hinges. The Oppo Find N features a 5.49-inch 18:9 aspect ratio external display that looks like a compact but standard smartphone display. Inside, the Find N unfolds into a 7.1-inch E5 display panel with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and an 8.4:9 aspect ratio. 60 percent larger viewing area than a typical 6.5-inch smartphone display.
Oppo has also developed a dedicated Flexion hinge for the smartphone, which it says can stand at different angles from 50 to 120 degrees. This may allow users to prop up the phone while typing, using for video calls, or taking a stabilized photo. Oppo has also developed dedicated software to easily switch between external and internal displays. The latter recognizes gestures to allow split-screen app browsing and other tasks. Oppo says the ultra-thin glass on the outer layer of the foldable display is 0.03mm, which improves durability and readability.
The hinge also consists of 136 components, and the smartphone itself is 73mm thick and weighs 270g.
Pricing
The Oppo Find N is priced at CNY 7,699 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variants and CNY 8,999 for the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage variant. Pre-orders for the smartphone are now open in China and users can get it from next week, December 23rd.
