Green Lantern: The television series is retained but starts from scratch without Seth Graham-Smith.

Writer and showrunner Seth Graham-Smith is leaving the Green Lantern production team after writing an eight-episode script that was supposed to focus on Guy Gardner and Alan Scott.

Green Lantern, still curated by Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Superman & Lois, Riverdale, Stargirl), will now focus on John Stewart, one of DC Comics’ first black superheroes. Incidentally, Marc Guggenheim (Arrow, Batwoman, Supergil, Vixen), who was originally supposed to co-write the pilot with Seth Graham-Smith, was not involved with the project until its recent rewrite. Since its announcement, Green Lantern has been hailed as the greatest DC series ever made, and it had ideas to show episodes in space.

Drifting Green Lantern budget?

The series was also to be considered the most expensive DC ever made, and by far the biggest for HBO Max, with an estimated budget of $120 million. Dragon House, the prequel to Game of Thrones, by comparison, cost less than $200 million. However, the budget could still be significantly cut in the future as HBO Max, led by David Zaslav and Warner Bros. seeks to change the size of its various assets. As part of the search for a proposed $3 billion savings, David Zaslav and his division’s executives have turned down a number of projects, including the Bizarre Adventures anthology planned by Greg Berlanti for HBO Max, JJ Abrams’ original Demimond series for HBO, and the already-completed feature film Batgirl..
