The Serpent Queen, historical drama about Catherine de Medici

The story of the infamous Catherine de Medici, who against all odds became one of the most powerful and ruling rulers in French history.

Based on the book “Catherine Medici: Queen of France of the Renaissance”by Leoni Frida, as well as a script by executive producer Justin Haight, the television series “Queen of the Serpents”is a modern take on the traditional storytelling of Catherine’s rise to power from the Medici. In the first episode of the Medici Bitch series, Katherine’s story unfolds through flashbacks as she defends her actions and passes on the lessons learned to her confident new servant Rahima.

At 14, young Catherine, an orphan, married at the French court of the 16th century. Despite her status as a commoner, her uncle, Pope Clement, negotiated a large dowry and geopolitical alliance in exchange for this alliance, allowing her to hope for many heirs. However, on their wedding night, Catherine learns that her new husband is in love with Diane de Poitiers, a beautiful lady-in-waiting twice his age. With her future suddenly uncertain and her hopes of conceiving a child low, Catherine must quickly learn who she can trust—both in her personal circle of courtiers and among members of the royal court—and outsmart those who underestimate his determination to survive at all costs.
