Google removes location-based reminders

Google is rekindling the cauldron and removing useful features from users for no apparent reason. Through various channels, the company has announced that reminders for Google Assistant will soon become a lot less useful.

First, the Google Assistant is no longer able to create location-based reminders. These were incredibly useful commands you could say to the Google Assistant, like “remind me to take out the trash when I get home,” and your phone, which is always tracking your location, will ping you when you walk through the door. You can also say something like, “Remind me to buy some milk next time I’m at Walmart,”and that just works.

Google sends notifications to users that this feature is no longer available. A message on the Google Support page states: “The ability to create reminders for a specific location will be gone soon. You can still create reminders at specific times and set procedures for a location. ” Suggesting subroutines as a replacement is a ridiculous suggestion, as subroutines are, well, a chore and need to be repeated after a certain period of time. They are also designed to trigger smart home automation systems or alarm clocks; these are not simple notifications.

Another reminder feature on how to get an ax is fairly new and is probably dying of not being used. In 2019, Google announced the ability to send reminders to other people. Although in reality it was quite difficult to do this. You’ll either need to be in the Google Family ecosystem and set them up in Family Link, or have that person be someone you share the Assistant device with, such as a roommate.

It’s unclear why the company would suddenly gut such a useful and easy-to-use feature. One reason could be that Reminders doesn’t have a clear home on Google. This is one of the rare features that work in Google services – there are reminder features in Google Assistant, Reminders.google.com, Google Calendar and Google Keep. This probably means that he is heavily entangled in domestic politics.

Last year, 9to5Google once caught Google working on a “Memory “feature for Google Assistant that would let you save web clippings, reminders, and other things, almost like a replacement for the “Reminders”feature. However, this memory upgrade never came out, and now Google is simply removing the functionality from its ecosystem.
