Google Chromecast: 5 Voice Commands You (Probably) Don’t Know

A Google Chromecast connected to a TV is a very powerful tool. Especially since it integrates Google Assistant, giving you voice access to many features.

Google Assistant most often refers to Android smartphones and other connected speakers. However, in 2020, the tech giant has integrated it into TVs via Chromecast. A more affordable key has a remote with a dedicated button to activate Google Assistant. Keep building on it, ask for what you want and enjoy. And you can do a lot with just your voice.

Ask for a movie title that doesn’t belong to you

You’re ready to watch a movie, but you can’t remember the title of what you wanted to watch. You have it on the tip of your tongue. Chromecast can find it for you. All you have to do is ask the questions: “What is the Korean drama with the game and the scary doll?” (Playing squid). “A spy movie starring Anne Hathaway?”(Max threat). And the wizard will even ask you if you want to watch a movie, a trailer, or something else.

Rewind an episode or movie

It may happen that while watching an episode or movie, you need to rewatch a scene. You can do it manually via the remote, but it’s quite frustrating if you have 10 minutes to “rewind”. There is a much simpler method. Just say “Rewind 10 minutes”. You can also return to a specific time code, such as 1 hour 12 minutes and 20 seconds. This also works to move forward in the video.

Streaming video from a security camera to a TV

Many security cameras are compatible with Google Assistant. This means you can integrate them into the Google Home app and stream on any Google Assistant-enabled display, including a Chromecast-equipped TV. To do this, say, for example, “show me the camera on the front door.”It is convenient to check who is at the door.

Please note that the cameras must be in the same house as the Chromecast for this to work.

View exact images from Google Photos

The large TV is also ideal for viewing photos. Usually, you need to transfer said photos to a USB drive and connect it to your TV. On Google Chromecast, just say “show me my photos”. But best of all, you can be more specific: “Show me my Parisian photos”or “Show me my Valentine’s Day photos.”If the face recognition function is activated, you can also ask “Show me pictures of [so-and-so].”

Show weather

It’s always a good idea to check the weather before you travel. With Google Assistant, it’s very easy. Just ask, “What’s the weather like?”and Assistant gives you the local weather. In addition to telling you the information out loud, it displays predictions on the temperature TV and for multiple players. You can also specify dates, location, and temperature unit (Fahrenheit, Celsius, or Kelvin).
