Call of Duty Vanguard will thankfully feature a smaller install size than previous entries in the series

Call of Duty and storage space wasn’t a particularly healthy relationship, as players had to purchase external storage at this point so they could continue playing Warzone or Black Ops Cold War. The size of these games has become an internet meme at this point, so it would mean that the release of the upcoming Call of Duty Vanguard meant that mass cleaning hard drives and SSDs might be in order.

But joy! Sledgehammer Games has entered the drive market globally as they just announced that Vanguard will indeed have a smaller install size at launch compared to previous Call of Duty releases. In particular, this applies to games like Modern Warfare, Warzone, and Black Ops Cold War, which had massive download sizes at launch that got even bigger with later updates and DLCs.

The install size of Call of Duty Vanguard will be “significantly lower”than previous releases.

What “significantly lower”means is anyone’s guess, but it can be assumed that the game is somewhere around the 80GB mark, which has become the new standard for AAA games. The small install size is made possible by a new on-demand texture streaming technology that will save between 30% and 50% on next generation consoles and PC hard drive.

This is really great news as fans were wary of how big Vanguard would be and what games they might have to cull to make room for the World War shooter Sledgehammer. The release of the game is scheduled for November 5, 2021, which is just around the corner.

While the open beta was decent fun to play with, the conversation was dominated by hackers and cheaters. Although Activision just introduced a new anti-cheat system, Ricochet, it was quickly dismantled by hackers and COD still seems to have a major problem when it comes to cheating.
