Disney is considering launching an ad-supported offering on Disney+. This will further reduce the score.
Currently, the Disney+ streaming service is one of the most affordable options for those looking for series and movies to watch. At €6.99 per month, it’s actually inexpensive, but the price has already gone up since launch. And we can well imagine that in the coming years it will grow more or less regularly, like Netflix.
Disney will consider launching an ad-supported offer on Disney+.
That being said, there may be good news on that front. At least for users who only need to advertise. Indeed, if The Information report is to be believed, it could be that Disney is currently considering offering an ad-supported Disney+. By this, it should be understood that this offer should be less expensive or even free in exchange for the integration of advertising.
This will further reduce the score.
And what’s interesting about this rumor is that it could very well have happened. Discovery+ and Paramount+ already have ad-supported plans that are offered in the US for $4.99 per month (up from the usual $6.99). Hulu, for its part, the majority of whose shares are owned by Disney, offers an offer with advertising. In other words, it makes sense for Disney to add an ad offering to Disney+.
Streaming services often increase their prices over time as they invest heavily in original content production, in particular, and in purchasing broadcast licenses for content owned by other studios. This is common practice and completely normal. An ad-supported offer can help reduce the bill in exchange for ad insertion. However, Disney has not yet announced anything about this. Case to follow!
