Today, for the vast majority of Internet users, Google is the Internet. Let’s be clear here, this is actually not the case. But given that Gmail, Google Search, Google Drive, etc. have become synonymous with the Internet, it’s no surprise that people think so. But if Google is the Internet for you, it goes without saying that you’ll need a lot of space in Gmail, Google Drive, and maybe even Google Photos. So you’ll have to manage all that storage efficiently if you don’t want to pay a ton of money for it. Here’s how much free storage you get and how much you can buy if you go over the free limit.
Google Drive free storage limit
Every Google account starts with 15GB of free storage shared across Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail. This may seem like a lot at first, but given that even the simplest photos on smartphones currently take up a few megabytes, this probably won’t be enough for most users. Google is merging storage plans into a Google One subscription.
What is the Social Tab in Gmail
The social category in Gmail helps you filter all the social media messages you receive in your Gmail account. It basically stores all your social media posts like Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin and more.
What is the Promotions tab in Gmail
The Promotions tab in Gmail separates all promotional emails from the main tab. In this category, you will find emails regarding coupons, offers, promotional emails, shipping notifications, etc.
How to Delete All Social Media and Promotional Messages in Gmail
If you want to stick with the 15GB free limit, you’ll have to manage your storage better, and that starts with deleting emails. Of course, each email only takes up a few MB at best, but things add up quickly. Gmail has useful categories that are created automatically, separating social and promotional emails from the main ones. Given that social media emails have no memorability value, here’s how to delete them.
- Open your Gmail account on your desktop.
- Click the “social”or “promotional”category at the top of your inbox.
- A small check mark will appear below the search bar at the top of the page. Click on it to select all emails in the Social or Ads folder.
- You will see a message: “All 50 conversations on this page have been selected. Select “All Conversations in Promotions”. You need to click on the second sentence.
- After that, just click the trash can icon to delete all social media emails or promotions at once.
Don’t forget to delete all emails in the Trash folder, they still take up space if you don’t delete them. Gmail automatically deletes emails that have been stored in the Trash folder for more than 30 days, but you’ll have to delete them manually if you’re trying to free up space immediately.
