Google Hangouts will disappear in the fall

Google is going to shut down Hangouts permanently. The American giant is starting to offer users to switch to Google Chat.

Like all tech giants, Google is never short of ideas. This leads to the launch on a more or less large scale of many products and services. Some become very popular and exist for a long time, others never leave the testing stage. When it comes to instant messaging, Mountain View has always had some issues. Google Hangouts will soon disappear.

Google is going to permanently disable Hangouts

The stubborn few who still use it will have to say goodbye to what is probably Google’s most trusted chat app. Google Hangouts will be disabled in a few months. The American giant has announced that it will begin migrating Hangouts users to Chat before the service is no longer available, in November 2022. If you’re still using Hangouts on mobile, you’ll see a message, chat app, or Gmail chat. “Hangouts has been replaced by Google Chat,”the notice reads.

In Gmail, Google won’t start offering this migration to Hangouts users until July. The Hangouts web client will remain available until November, and the company says users will receive “at least”a month’s warning before the platform’s web page automatically redirects them to the chat site. If you’re still actively using Hangouts, Google also promises that your conversations will be automatically migrated to the new app. However, you can also use the Takeout service to download a copy of your data.

Google has been preparing to phase out its Hangouts brand for some time now, replacing it with newer messaging services. Therefore, it is not surprising that the American giant has finally decided to finally lower the curtain. And although Hangouts has never been as popular as some of its competitors, the service had its fans.
