Google launches web portal to view feeds from Nest cameras. You no longer need an app for this.
It took a while, but now you don’t have to use the app to check the video feed from the Nest cameras in your home. As The Verge explains, Google has introduced a new home.google.com portal that allows you to view video streams from the latest Nest Cam and Nest Doorbell models. You cannot watch the recorded video, but you have access to the live stream, you can zoom in and activate or deactivate the cameras.
Google launches web portal to view feeds from Nest cameras
This feature applies to wired and battery powered Nest Cam models (including spotlight, Indoor, Outdoor, and IQ options), as well as the battery powered Nest Doorbell and its two wired variants (Nest Hello and Second Generation Doorbell). You can also wake up any device on battery power.
Google has already offered this kind of web browsing for its Nest cameras, but the feature hasn’t been ported to products released in 2021. Nest chief executive Rishi Chandra told customers that online browsing will be available this year. Nobody knows exactly what stopped new models from simply using the old home.nest.com portal, but we can easily understand that the absence of this feature can be very frustrating where most competing cameras allow it.
Don’t need an app anymore
Whatever the reason, ultimately this web portal makes Nest’s latest smart cameras and doorbells a lot more useful. You can check your front door or take a look at your pet from your office computer without taking out your smartphone or launching a dedicated app. Google also adds that it will continue to add “very popular camera features”over time. So you can be less dependent on the app for your cameras.
