Google is already working on a new Chromecast with Google TV

Getting ready for a new Chromecast with Google TV? With improvements in video and maybe in memory?

Today, there are many solutions for listening to audio / video content on various devices in the house. Google offers an efficient and very easy to use solution with Chromecast. And it looks like Mountain View is working on a new model. There are notable improvements in the video in the menu.

Getting ready for a new Chromecast with Google TV?

Google isn’t on any pre-determined release schedule for its Chromecast models – for example, it’s still possible to buy a 1080p model from a few years ago today – but the US company could be more aggressive with the Google TV model very soon. Indeed, according to 9to5Google, the company is already working on a new generation of Chromecast with Google TV. Digging through the documentation and code, the codename “Boreal”was discovered, and 9to5Google understands that this new Android TV media center could be launched later this year.

With video and possibly storage improvements

The leak in question doesn’t mention any specs, but it’s almost certain that there will be a new processor with more video support. XDA and other sources have reportedly learned that Android TV will require support for the AV1 video format starting March 31st, and this is currently not available on Chromecast with Google TV. The American firm could also use this opportunity to address one of the main complaints about this product, namely its more than modest storage.

If this information is confirmed, then the question will arise whether this model will simply and simply replace the existing Chromecast, or whether it will complement the lineup by becoming even more powerful. That being said, given that the current Chromecast is already 4K HDR compatible, a replacement seems more likely. In any case, it’s clear that the changes must be significant enough for Google to use the new codename – it’s usually retained when the changes are minor. To be continued!
