Google launches Windows PC version of its Nearby Share app

Google is releasing a Windows PC version of its Nearby Share app. Unfortunately, France does not yet have the right.

At CES 2022, Google talked about its intention to improve the integration of Android into the Windows ecosystem, and in several very different ways. Nearby Share was one of the promised features of Microsoft’s desktop operating system. The American giant just rolled out the beta version of its Nearby Share app for Windows today, making it much easier to transfer files between mobile and PC. You can download it right now from the Android website if your computer is running Windows 10 64-bit or later and doesn’t have an ARM processor.

You’ll need to turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your PC for this feature to work, but you can choose who can see your device and send your files to avoid potential spam messages. From the drop-down menu in device visibility settings, you can make your computer visible to everyone, only to your contacts, only to your own devices, or to everyone. If you don’t select the last option, your Android device will be able to share files with your computer if the app is open or running in the background.

To send files from your PC to your Android smartphone, simply drag and drop the files in the Neighborhood Sharing app or right-click on them and select the Neighborhood Sharing option. If both devices belong to you and are connected to the same Google account, the transfer will start automatically, even if the recipient’s screen is off. Both devices just need to be within range, about 5 meters maximum.

Unfortunately, France does not yet have the right

Google has released the “Sharing with the environment”feature for the US and most countries around the world. Unfortunately, some of them are missing, and this applies to France. We’ll have to wait before we can open all of this. Also note that while the beta app currently only works with Android smartphones and tablets, compatibility will extend across the company’s ecosystem. To be continued!
