Microsoft mistakenly offers a Windows 11 update for non-compatible PCs

Microsoft is mistakenly offering an upgrade to Windows 11 for non-compatible PCs. A new incident that is reminiscent of the current frustration with Windows 11.

A few days ago, Windows 10 mistakenly prompted some users to upgrade to Windows 11 despite their PC not meeting the minimum criteria to host that operating system. Twitter user PhantomOcean3 was one of the first to notice this error after Windows 10 showed him a full-screen notification that he could install the OS on a machine with 2GB of RAM.

Microsoft mistakenly offers a Windows 11 update for non-compatible PCs

“Some machines not eligible for Windows 10 and Windows 11 version 21H2 have been offered an inadequate update for Windows 11,”reads a Microsoft white paper found by The Verge. “These non-eligible devices do not meet the minimum requirements to run Windows 11. Devices experiencing this issue were unable to complete the update installation process.”The Redmond-based firm added that it resolved the incident the same day it appeared.

New Incident Reminiscent of Current Windows 11 Frustration

As reported by The Verge, this is not the first time Microsoft has mistakenly offered a Windows 11 update to some Windows 10 users. Last year, for example, hundreds of Windows Insider Program testers were able to install the operating system when their PC did not meet the minimum criteria for installing it. These concerns also further highlight the current dissatisfaction with Windows 11. Microsoft requires a PC to have a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) installed in order to run the latest major version of the OS. And since the American giant has implemented this condition, there is still real confusion as to which machines may or may not run Windows 11. We hope that Microsoft will do whatever is necessary to rectify the situation.

Is there a free upgrade to Windows 11 for unsupported Windows 10 devices/virtual machines?
