Video games have evolved a lot in recent years and multiplayer games have taken a more prominent place. And with it a lot of features and technologies. Including voice chats. Absolutely vital for certain types of games. Today, many gamers around the world use the Discord platform. For the latter, Microsoft is gearing up to make it easier to use with the Xbox console.
Microsoft makes it easy to access Discord voice from Xbox
Microsoft and Discord are committed to making it easier to access the voice channel from the Xbox console. If you’re a regular Discord user, you may remember that two companies recently offered voice integrations on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
After a beta testing phase in July, Discord began rolling out the feature to all Xbox users last September. Unfortunately, in its current implementation, this integration is not the easiest: to be able to join a voice chat, you have to go through the Xbox mobile app, therefore, on a smartphone, in order to transfer the communication, so to speak.
Currently available in beta, will be available to everyone soon
Everything must change soon. In a blog post spotted by The Verge, Microsoft announced that it would eliminate the need for a smartphone to join a Discord voice chat. This change is already available via a beta update for Xbox Insiders. This new version adds a browser that allows you to join a voice channel directly from the console. The smartphone will still be very useful if you want to call a specific player on Discord, but otherwise this update greatly simplifies a process that has been very difficult until now.
While the feature is currently in beta, the Redmond-based company should roll it out to all Xbox users in the coming weeks or months. To be continued!
