Honor will soon introduce its first folding screen smartphone, a device called the Honor Magic V, which is still very mysterious.
Honor just hinted at the release of its first Magic V folding screen smartphone on Twitter and Weibo. The company, which was originally a subsidiary of Huawei, describes it as “Honor’s first foldable flagship”and indicates it will hit the market “soon”without giving an exact date.
Honor will soon formalize its first smartphone with a folding screen
Rumors have been circulating about a potential foldable smartphone under development at Honor for some time now, especially after the company filed the terms “Magic Fold”and “Magic Wing”with the China Trademark Office. The company’s CEO George Zhao told CNET in 2019 that he was very interested in developing a smartphone with a foldable display. Its former parent company Huawei recently launched the third generation of the Mate X2 foldable smartphone.
A device called Honor Magic V is still very mysterious
However, there are no details. A rumor from The Elec claimed that the upcoming Honor smartphone with a folding screen will use ultra-thin glass with an unfolded 8.03-inch display and a 6.45-inch outer display. If this information is correct, this means that this device will be very similar in size to the Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 and not the Galaxy Flip 3. And since this is a flagship, high-end components are to be expected.
Huawei sold Honor in November 2020 to “ensure its survival”. Thus, Honor has been an independent company for just over a year now. And, unlike Huawei devices, Google apps and services are available on Honor smartphones.
Samsung, Huawei, and now Honor, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Motorola have recently launched smartphones with foldable screens. Google is reportedly working on a similar device in its Pixel line and even announced an Android version that was conceived and designed for tablets and foldable devices.
