Google employees have criticized the launch of Bard, with highly ornate memes flooding the giant’s internal forum.
Google employees have been hard at work since the launch of Bard, the announced direct competitor to ChatGPT. As reported by CNBC, employees of the giant are posting memes on the internal Memegen forum about managing the launch of this generative artificial intelligence tool, directly blaming CEO Sundar Pichai for this oversight.
Google employees criticize Bard launch
Among the most popular memes was an image of Sundar Pichai with the text: “Dear Sundar, Bard’s launch and firing was too fast, sloppy and messy.”Another said, “Sundar and his management deserve a Perf NI,”referring to the lowest score in Google’s internal rating system. Another meme shows an image of a bird making a facepalm and saying, “A bad mistake in the market panic has increased the market’s fear of us.”
Criticism of Google employees echoes public opinion about the launch of Bard. The day before Microsoft announced the “new Bing”based on OpenAI chatbot technology, Google announced Bard. That being said, the blog post detailing things was very vague about the possibilities and dates for this launch.
Very flowery memes flooded the giant’s internal forum
The day after the Microsoft event, Google held its own event. The focus was on highlighting new features in Google Maps and Google Search, but the search giant also briefly mentioned Bard in light of Microsoft’s announcement. However, Google didn’t share many details about Bard, which disappointed people who were expecting a stronger answer. This, combined with several inaccuracies by Bard during the event, gave the impression that Google was uncharacteristically unprepared, causing Alphabet’s stock to drop over 9%.
Last month, Google laid off about 12,000 employees, adding to the frustration and outrage on the internal forum. As proof, meme of actor Nicolas Cage who smiles and says, “Laying off 12,000 people increases action by 3%, while introducing unfinished AI reduces it by 8%.”
Now Google must do everything to launch a more effective generative AI tool than ChatGPT and win back the approval of its employees.
