Microsoft is working on a game streaming device and TV app. Both may arrive very soon.
It’s been 11 months since Microsoft confirmed that it’s working on a video game streaming device as well as a smart TV app to further enhance its Xbox ecosystem. Since then, the American giant hasn’t provided any details, but today a new report suggests both could arrive within the next few months.
Microsoft is working on a game streaming device and TV app
According to GamesBeat, the streaming device, which can be connected to a TV or screen, will be shaped like a key or puck. In other words, it will either be an Amazon Fire Stick or a Chromecast. And there are rumors that it will be possible not only to stream games from Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, but also to watch movies and other series.
At the same time, Microsoft will be working with Samsung on the Xbox app for the brand’s TVs. Some 2022 models from the South Korean giant are already compatible with streaming services such as Google Stadia and NVIDIA GeForce Now. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Xbox Cloud Gaming app is coming to these TVs.
Both may arrive very soon
The TV app and streaming device are expected to arrive within the next 12 months. They fit perfectly into the Microsoft Xbox Everywhere strategy. The name itself is self-explanatory: Redmong wants to be able to connect with gamers wherever they are, whether they have an Xbox or a gaming PC worthy of the name, or anything like that.
This week, the project has made significant headway with the addition of Fortnite to the Xbox Cloud Gaming platform. This allows anyone to stream this ultra-popular game on any device including iPhone or iPad.
But what makes it all different from other streaming Xbox games is that it’s free. You don’t need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription to stream Fortnite. A simple Microsoft account is enough. The American giant explains that it wants to offer a range of free games that can be played via the cloud. Perhaps we could see games like Apex Legends, Call of Duty Warzone, or Halo Infinite multiplayer.
And we may not have to wait long before discovering this new level of Xbox Everywhere. June 12 will be a big presentation of the Xbox and Bethesda. There may be more than game announcements and other trailers.
